“Aye, Boy” is a tender story about a young teen growing up in an abusive household while navigating their own growing sexual identity. Set in the mid-1990s, I created a world that felt as colorfully cool as high school kids were at the time, while maintaining the dark, moody emotional landscape of the main character’s perspective.

I helped bring 1970-80’s San Francisco to life by sourcing new and vintage pieces for lead characters and aiding in the environmental aesthetic of background actors throughout the film. No detail was left unauthenticated for the iconic feel, tone, and time of the film.
Background & Set Costumer
Freakytales was a multi-story action film set in 1980’s Oakland. One storyline was about punks vs skinheads, another about a basketball player seeking revenge after a robbery, and another about a father protecting his family. With each, I was tasked with styling over 100 background looks and ensuring principal cast looks followed continuity between bloody fight scenes with duplicate outfits and several costume changes daily related to their scene and storylines.

LOOP was set in a tech-oligarch ran distopian world where the only escape from the pain of your real life is to delve your consciousness into a digital life…permanently. I, in collaboration with the director, created the “dress code” for the tech interview process to be approved for a digital self. Bright colors against the stark grey lobby that felt like color pops of hope in a bleak world. I embraced the philosophy: “Dress for what you want, not who you are.”

Skater teens of the early 2000’s. A time of post-emo meets hip-hop colorways, graphic tees, and baggy jeans. I managed sourcing and curating the male characters’ looks and surrounding aesthetics for background characters of Fremont, California. A time when kids would play outside as much as they managed their MySpace “Top 8”.

Two “Strangers on a Beach” share moments of fear and intimacy in the 1980’s at a time when a mysterious serial killer is targeting gay men in San Francisco, and the 49ers were at their peak. I chose to give each character their own nostalgic look that feels almost like a caricature of the 80’s yet still grounded in realism to not pull viewers out of the suspense.
